The Manifesto — How we operate

How we operate.

No surprises. No black boxes.

The operating manual — how the days flow, who does the work, what happens if you leave.

We work in days.

Simple. Honest. Easy to track.

No complex formulas. No hidden fees. No "consulting hours" that mean something different to everyone.

A day is a day. You know what you're paying for.

How that day gets structured depends on the shape of the engagement — see Engagements for Open Build, Open Studio, and Open Lead.

Why no fixed quotes?

Building products isn't like ordering furniture.

Scope evolves. Discoveries happen. Priorities shift. A fixed quote either locks you into the wrong thing or hides a margin buffer for "surprises."

We'd rather stay flexible, communicate constantly, and never surprise you with the invoice.

Who does the work.

Core team.

Experienced builders who are part of Wellmade. They lead, they ship, they stay.

Trusted network.

Specialists we've worked with before. We know their work. We know they deliver. We know they won't vanish mid-project.

The people who start your project are the people who finish it.

When we need external expertise.

Sometimes a project needs a skill we don't have in-house or in our network.

When that happens, we don't disappear and come back with a name. We do it together:

1

Scope

What do we actually need?

2

Search

Find candidates, you're in the loop.

3

Interview

You meet them, you ask questions.

4

Contract

Direct relationship, no markup.

5

Manage

We integrate them, stay accountable.

Full transparency. No surprises. Your project, your team.

Communication.

Communication is key. We don't disappear into a cave and emerge with code.

Weekly sync.

Short, effective. What's done, what's next, what's blocked.

Always available.

During working hours on days we're booked with you, we're reachable. Slack, email, call — your choice.

After hours?

Our Support package covers critical issues when you need SLAs — especially for infrastructure.

Tools & infrastructure.

Every project needs a stack: code repository, cloud, tools. Where possible, we use your existing setup or help you create accounts directly with providers. Your contracts, your control.

If we need internal tools on our side that carry a cost, you'll know before we start.

The Bus Factor.

What happens if we get hit by a bus? What if you want to leave?

We think about this from day one.

Your code lives on your infrastructure. Your accounts. Your repositories. You can pull the plug anytime - within contract terms, of course - and resume operations with any other provider.

If you leave, we'll make sure you have everything. Documentation, context, access, answers to questions we forgot to write down.

We want you to leave happy. So you come back when you realize it was a mistake.

Let's talk about your project.
